Cardamom

Cardamom, also known as true or green cardamom, is the spice produced from the pods and seeds of Elettaria cardamomum, a tropical perennial herb in the ginger family (Zingiberaceae).

While other spices are called cardamom (black, red, Thai, and Ethiopian cardamom), they all come from different plants. When you see “cardamom” written without any modifier, it means true cardamom only. Learn more about cardamom.
