Black Cumin
Black cumin is the spice derived from the dried narrow seeds of Bunium persicum (syn. Elwendia persica), a perennial flowering plant in the parsley and celery family (Apiaceae). When you see “cumin seed” in a jar, it is almost always brown cumin. Black cumin is less common in everyday cooking. It has a smaller seed and a more distinct bittersweet flavor profile.
